School, classroom, and PTA sponsored events abound at Lake Hills often extending beyond the classroom and involving our entire community.
Scholastic Books Fairs
Our Scholastic Book Fairs promise to be a lively and fun events that enable children, parents, teachers and community members to purchase quality books and classroom materials at reasonable prices, while raising funds for the school. Our book fairs are held in the fall and spring.
Autumn Fest
Sponsored by the PTA, this festival is designed for the entire family. Whether it’s rain or shine, you’ll want to join us for an evening of hay rides, face painting, games, and loads of entertainment. Your family can enjoy hotdogs, chips, caramel apples, pumpkin pie, apple cider, hot cocoa and coffee.
Thanksgiving Food Drive
Our students, staff, and parents are generous people who enjoy helping provide Thanksgiving baskets for area families who may need a little extra help during the holiday. This PTA sponsored event begins the second Monday of November and involves each classroom helping collect food items that local fire and law enforcement personnel distribute before Thanksgiving.
Holiday Gift Shop
Our gift shop provides an opportunity for students to shop for inexpensive holiday gifts for friends and family. A great selection of gifts are available, with over 90 different items for parents, relatives, and friends.
Outdoor Education
In partnership with Camp Pendalouan, our fifth grade students enjoy a two-day winter retreat at the YMCA camp in Montague. They participate in team challenge games, hikes, cross-country skiing, tobogganing, orienteering and other team building activities.
Chess Club
Each winter, third through fifth grade students are encouraged to play chess during their lunch recess. Some 60 students typically participate in this brain-engaging learning opportunity in the media center.
Sweetheart Dance
school gymnasium is transformed into a beautiful setting for this Valentine celebration which features dance music, flowers, a photo booth, and refreshments.
Talent Show
Typically held at White Pines Middle School, the Lake Hills Talent Show features a variety of acts by children of all ages. It provides a showcase for students to display their talents before a live audience.
Field Trips
The Northshore PTA provides funding to each classroom for field trips throughout the year. Our students visit the Frederik Meijer Gardens, the Public Museum of Grand Rapids, the Holland Rock and Mineral Show, the State Capital Building, and participate in other activities off-campus.
Spring Fling
This school-wide event in late spring provides an opportunity for our families to spend an evening at school enjoying a variety of fun-filled activities in the gymnasium and outside. You can even buy pizza for the entire family and enjoy the outdoor café.
Sports
We offer opportunities for students to participate in intramural basketball, Girl’s On the Run, Total Trek Quest and activities sponsored through the Northwest Ottawa Recreation Authority (NORA).
